Injectable veneers are an ideal treatment for minor cosmetic dental issues such as discoloration, gaps, and uneven teeth. This less invasive alternative to traditional porcelain veneers involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin directly to the surface of your teeth, resulting in a natural-looking and durable finish.

What kind of problems to dental veneers fix

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth. They can be used to fix a variety of dental problems, including:

  1. Discolored teeth: Veneers can be used to cover teeth that are discolored or stained and cannot be improved by teeth whitening treatments.

  2. Chipped or broken teeth: Veneers can be used to cover the front surface of teeth that are chipped or broken, improving their appearance and protecting them from further damage.

  3. Gaps between teeth: Veneers can be used to close small gaps between teeth, giving a more even and uniform appearance.

  4. Misaligned teeth: Veneers can be used to cover teeth that are slightly misaligned or crooked, improving their appearance without the need for braces.

  5. Irregularly shaped teeth/ crooked teeth: Veneers can be used to reshape teeth that are too small or irregularly shaped, improving their appearance and making them look more symmetrical.

It’s important to note that dental veneers are not suitable for everyone, and that they may not be the best option for more severe dental problems. A dentist or dental professional can help determine whether veneers are a suitable treatment option for a specific dental issue.

Type of veneers offered at Hills dental studio

If you’re looking to enhance your smile and boost your confidence, you’ve come to the right place. Our team of experienced dentists specializes in injectable veneers, a revolutionary cosmetic dental treatment that can transform your smile in just one visit.

Injectable veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that involves injecting a thin layer of composite resin or porcelain directly onto the surface of the teeth.

They are used to improve the appearance of teeth that are discoloured, misshapen, or have gaps between them. Injectable veneers are a less invasive alternative to traditional veneers and can be completed in a single office visit.

Other types of veneers

There are several types of dental veneers available today, including:

  1. Porcelain veneers: These are the most popular and widely used type of veneers. They are made of thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are known for their durability, resistance to stains, and natural-looking appearance.

  2. Composite veneers: These are made of a tooth-colored resin material that is applied to the front surface of the teeth. Composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers but may not last as long and may be more prone to staining.

  3. Lumineers: These are a type of porcelain veneer that is ultra-thin, requiring little to no tooth reduction before placement. They are often marketed as a less invasive alternative to traditional porcelain veneers.

  4. CEREC veneers: These are porcelain veneers that are fabricated using computer-aided design and manufacturing technology. They are often completed in a single visit to the dentist.

  5. Non-prep veneers: These are similar to Lumineers in that they require little to no tooth reduction before placement. They are made of composite resin or porcelain and can be removed if desired.

The type of veneer that is best for you will depend on several factors, including the condition of your teeth, your budget, and your aesthetic goals. Consult with your dentist to determine which type of veneer is right for you.

Preparation

If you are planning to undergo a veneers procedure, there are a few steps you can take to prepare yourself:

  1. Consultation: The first step is to schedule a consultation with a dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry. During the consultation, the dentist will evaluate your dental health and discuss your goals for the veneers procedure.
  2. Oral hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential before and after the veneers procedure. You should brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash. This will help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, which can affect the success of the veneers.
  3. Dental cleaning: It is recommended to get a dental cleaning before the veneers procedure. This will ensure that your teeth are free of any plaque or tartar buildup, which can affect the bonding of the veneers to the teeth.
  4. Medical history: Inform your dentist about any medical conditions or allergies you have, as well as any medications or supplements you are taking. This will help your dentist determine if any special precautions or modifications to the procedure are necessary.
  5. Lifestyle changes: If you smoke, it is recommended to quit before the veneers procedure. Smoking can stain and discolor the veneers, reducing their lifespan and affecting their appearance. Additionally, it is important to avoid foods and drinks that can stain the veneers, such as coffee, tea, and red wine.
  6. Financial considerations: The cost of veneers can vary depending on the location and complexity of the procedure. It is important to discuss the cost and payment options with your dentist before the procedure.

By following these steps, you can help ensure a successful and comfortable veneers procedure, with long-lasting results.

Procedure

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom-made to fit over the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance.

Here’s what patients can expect during the procedure itself:

  1. Numbing or Anesthesia: Before starting the procedure, the dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the teeth that will be treated. This will help to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
  2. Tooth Preparation: The dentist will then remove a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of the teeth that will receive the veneers. This is necessary to create enough space for the veneers to fit comfortably and look natural. After the enamel is removed, the dentist will take an impression of the teeth, which will be used to create the custom veneers.
  3. Temporary Veneers: While the custom veneers are being made, the dentist will place temporary veneers on the teeth to protect them and improve their appearance. These temporary veneers will be removed when the custom veneers are ready.
  4. Fitting the Veneers: Once the custom veneers are ready, the dentist will check their fit and color to ensure they match the patient’s natural teeth. The veneers will then be bonded to the teeth using a special dental adhesive. The dentist will use a curing light to harden the adhesive and bond the veneers to the teeth.
  5. Adjusting the Veneers: After the veneers are bonded to the teeth, the dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure they fit comfortably and look natural. This may involve removing small amounts of material from the veneers or adjusting their shape or size.

In terms of discomfort during the procedure, patients may experience some minor sensitivity or discomfort during the tooth preparation stage when the enamel is being removed. However, the local anesthesia should help to minimize any pain or discomfort.

Patients may also experience some sensitivity or discomfort in the days following the procedure as they adjust to the new veneers. The dental practice will work to minimize pain and discomfort by providing instructions for caring for the veneers and prescribing pain medication if necessary.

Benefits

Veneers have several benefits, including:

  1. Improved appearance: Veneers can improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored, stained, chipped, misshapen, or unevenly spaced. They can also be used to make teeth appear longer or wider, which can enhance the overall appearance of a person’s smile.
  2. Natural-looking results: Porcelain veneers are designed to mimic the natural look and feel of teeth. They are custom-made to match the shape, size, and color of a patient’s existing teeth, so they blend in seamlessly with the rest of the smile.
  3. Long-lasting: With proper care, veneers can last for many years. Porcelain veneers are durable and resistant to staining, chipping, and wear. However, they may need to be replaced eventually, especially if they are subjected to excessive wear and tear.
  4. Minimally invasive: Unlike other dental procedures, such as crowns or implants, veneers are a minimally invasive treatment. The process involves removing only a small amount of tooth enamel to make room for the veneer. This means that the natural tooth structure is preserved as much as possible.
  5. Fast results: Veneers can be completed in just a few appointments, so patients can enjoy the benefits of a new smile in a relatively short amount of time.

It’s important to note that veneers are not suitable for everyone, and the decision to get veneers should be made in consultation with a qualified dentist. Additionally, the cost of veneers can vary depending on several factors, including the type of material used, the complexity of the case, and the location of the dental practice.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare is important to ensure the longevity of your veneers and to maintain good oral health. Here are some tips for aftercare:

  1. Brush and floss regularly: It’s important to continue brushing and flossing your teeth as usual to maintain good oral hygiene. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid damaging the veneers.
  2. Avoid hard and sticky foods: Veneers are strong, but they can still be damaged by hard or sticky foods. Try to avoid chewing on hard items such as ice or using your teeth to open packages. Sticky foods such as caramels or chewing gum can also pull on the veneers and cause them to loosen or come off.
  3. Wear a nightguard: If you grind or clench your teeth at night, it’s important to wear a nightguard to protect your veneers from damage.
  4. Schedule regular dental check-ups: Regular dental check-ups are important to ensure that your veneers and overall oral health are in good condition. Your dentist will be able to check the condition of your veneers and make any necessary adjustments or repairs.
  5. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption: Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can stain or damage the veneers, so it’s best to avoid these habits altogether.

By following these aftercare tips, you can help ensure the longevity of your veneers and maintain good oral health.

Not everyone is a candidate for veneers. Disqualifying factors may include inadequate tooth enamel, untreated gum disease, severe tooth decay, or an unstable bite. Additionally, individuals who clench or grind their teeth excessively may not be suitable for veneers.

After getting veneers, it is common for the gums to be slightly irritated and swollen for a few days. In most cases, the gums will return to normal within a week or two. However, if the veneers were placed improperly or if there is an issue with the fit, the gums may continue to be irritated and it may be necessary to return to the dentist to have them adjusted.

Before getting veneers, your dentist will examine your teeth and take x-rays to ensure that they are healthy enough to support veneers. Then, a small amount of tooth enamel will be removed to make room for the veneers. The amount of enamel removed is usually less than a millimeter.

Once the enamel has been removed, an impression of your teeth will be taken so that the veneers can be custom-made to fit your teeth. In some cases, temporary veneers may be placed while you wait for your permanent veneers to be fabricated.

Once you have veneers, you will need to maintain good oral hygiene to keep them in good condition. If the veneers become damaged or stained, they may need to be replaced or repaired.

It is also possible to have the veneers removed, but this will likely require the removal of some of the tooth enamel. It is important to discuss your options with your dentist before making any decisions.

The cost of a full set of veneers in South Africa can vary depending on several factors such as the type of material used, the complexity of the case, and the location of the dental practice.

With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for many years, typically around 10 to 15 years or more. However, after 10 years, the veneers may start to show signs of wear or discoloration, and they may need to be replaced.

The lifespan of veneers can depend on several factors, such as the type of material used, the patient’s oral hygiene habits, and any underlying dental issues. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can help to extend the life of veneers and identify any issues early on.

Once veneers are placed on the teeth, a small amount of tooth enamel is usually removed to make room for the veneers. This means that the tooth will always require some sort of restoration to maintain its appearance.

However, if a patient wants to remove their veneers, it is possible to do so, but the tooth may be more sensitive and appear different than before the veneers were placed. It’s important to discuss the options with your dentist and consider the long-term effects before deciding to remove veneers.

He's always patient with me whenever I go for my monthly check ups. I've only had my braces in for 3/4 months now and I've seen a huge improvement. I cannot wait to see the final results 😁😁😁😁😁
